QB Recruiting Update - 4/3/11

Commitments
Luke Knott verballed to Iowa State over an offer from SDSU.  This is the 2nd QB commit for ISU this cycle.
Clayton Nicholas (TX) got his first offer from TT and jumped all over it

QB Recruitment Updates
Zeke Pike took an unofficial visit to Michigan, which is a very good sign for the Wolverines.  I’d be surprised if Michigan didn’t make Pike’s top 10 whenever he decides to pare down his offer list.  They are still hot after Maty Mauk and Gunner Kiel as well.  Pike also took a visit to LSU.
MSU QB Joe Boisture is hanging ‘em up due to back problems.  This probably explains why MSU now wants to bring in two QBs this cycle.  They just had an unofficial visitor in PA QB Blake Rankin who sports an offer from Rutgers.
Brendan Nosovitch (PA) visited PSU this week along with Devin Fuller.
Patrick Towles (KY) gave his verbal commitment to homestate UK over offers from Cincy, ILL and Ville.
Andre Scott (FL) picked up his first offer from Cincy.
Tyler O’Connor (OH) picked up offers from Indy, Ville, Vandy and WV to go with offers from MSU, NW, Toledo and BG.
Jamil Golden (TN) picked up his first two offers from Ark and Vandy.
Matt Davis (TX) added offers from Neb and Clem.  He’s planning a trip to aTm in a couple weeks.
Rivals 250 watchlister Bart Houston (CA) picked up an Iowa offer andplans on visiting Ore St, Wash, Iowa, Wis and Colo over the next couple weeks.  I was getting worried that he might start being a Wis lean but those fears seem to have subsided for now.
Wes Lunt (IL) visited Vandy and Louisville recently and his efforts were rewarded by picking up offers from both programs.  He’s also planning trips to ILL, MSU and BC and plans on working out for other programs during the early evaluation period so his recruitment is just starting to take off.  Lunt had offers from BC, ILL, MSU and W Mich prior.
Jameis Winston (AL) is favoring Bama and FSU but still made a visit to LSU and Aub recently.  It is also rumored that he might go as high as the 3rd round in the 2012 MLB draft.
Devin Fuller has agreed to play in the Army AA game, but it is unclear if it is as an ATH or QB.  He will be visiting KU and just took a visit to PSU.
Preston Dewey (TX) received an offer from UCLA.  This is his 2nd offer after Southern Miss.
Aloyis Gray (IN) picked up offers from Indy and W Mich to go along with offers from Cincy, ILL and Pur.
Bennie Coney picked up offers from Pur and Cincy but neither appear to be players in his recruitment.

BX QB Outlook
ILL – The Illini’s best bet for a QB at this stage is still Cyler Miles but Wes Lunt and Robert Gregory are still home state kids and that can never be discounted.
IND & PUR – They both are not sitting in very good position with many QB recruits and will both be battling for Aloyis Gray.
IOWA – I don’t think that Iowa has offered the QB they sign this cycle.  They could gain some ground on Bart Houston and Devin Fuller is a possibility.  But I don’t think they get their guy for a while.
MICH – I think they end up with Zeke Pike, Maty Mauk or Gunnar Kiel in that order.  Michigan needs a QB of the future that fits what the HC wants to do schematically and these three fit the bill.
MSU – I’m guessing that Tyler O’Connor will go green with spring along with another QB that MSU has yet to offer.  They also could sign Wes Lunt but then O’Connor would go to a different school like WV or NW.
MN – They have Nelson in the fold and still may offer Joe Mollberg
Neb – I actually like their odds with Rivals 250 watchlister Matt Davis.  That seems really weird to say after they brought in two highly sought after QB’s last cycle but Turner is practicing at WR and Bubba Starling still could elect to pursue a MLB dream.
NW – They have an outside shot at Tyler O’Connor, which gets a lot better if Lunt chooses MSU.  Otherwise they will have to offer another guy.
TOSU – Shane Dillon keeps on waiting but I’d be surprised if he doesn’t commit to TOSU.
PSU – Devin Fuller makes the most sense to go to PSU but given how poorly PSU has done developing QB’s I don’t think I’d go there any time soon if I were a QB.
Wis – They are not in a bad position with Bart Houston and Gunnar Holcombe is a strong possibility as well.  They are slow playing Wes Lunt right now but they may have to make a move sooner rather than later.
