2011 NFL Draft and the BX

When it comes time for a recruit to sign his name on his letter of intent there are many factors that go into his choice.  The primary factor is the quality of football.  Whether it be the quality of the players he’ll go up against every day at practice or who he’ll face on Saturdays.  The best want to go up against the best, which is why the most highly recruited players don’t sign with TCU or Boise St.  Sure there are other factors such as proximity, educational opportunities, etc. but the ability to prepare a recruit for the NFL is huge.
Since the ability to get someone ready for the NFL is so important I’d like to take a look at how the BX has done in the past and where the reputation goes from here.

Day 1 Guys
Prince Amukamara (CB, NEB) Mel #8; McShay #9; should be a top 10 draft pick, perhaps at #9 to Dallas or falling down to #13.
JJ Watt (DE, WIS) Mel #14; McShay #12; as high as #11 to Houston or as low as #17 to NE;
Corey Liuget (DT, ILL) Mel #15; McShay #15; good chance he’ll go as high as #14 to STL
Ryan Kerrigan (DE, PUR) Mel #20; McShay #23; as high as #17 to NE or as low as #28 to NE
Adrian Clayborn (DE, IOWA) Mel #24; McShay #21; as high as #24 to NO or as low as #27 to ATL
Gabe Carimi (OT, WIS) McShay #22; as high as #21 to KC or as low as #23 to PHI
Cam Hayward (DE, TOSU) McShay #28; as high as #26 to BALT
Having 7 players in the first round would be great for the Big 10.  Having more than our share of elite players defintely helps the reputation and the SEC usually dominates the 1st round.

Day 2 Guys
Christian Ballard (DT, IOWA)
Martez Wilson (LB, ILL)
Mikel LeShourel (RB, ILL)
Tandon Doss (WR, IND)
Lance Kendricks (TE, WIS)
Tyler Sash (S, IOWA)
Greg Jones (LB, MSU)
James Brewer (OT, IND)
Having only 8 players in the next two rounds shows where the BX lacks in talented depth.  It’s not awful, but certainly helps bolster the perception that the SEC is the supremely talented league and that there isn't much of a difference between the BX and the other BCS conferences.

Day 3 Guys
John Moffitt (IOL, WIS)
Roy Helu (RB, NEB)
Ricky Stanzi (QB, IOWA)
Niles Paul (WR, NEB)
Ross Homan (LB, TOSU)
Chimdi Chekwa (CB, TOSU)
Eric Hagg (S, NEB)
Pierre Allen (DE, NEB)
Chris Rucker (DB, MSU)
Devon Torrence (CB, TOSU)
Scott Tolzien (QB, WIS)
Stefan Wisniewski (IOL, PSU)
